Building McCormick's Digital Presence with Sitecore

In 2008, I had the privilege of joining StudioCom's team to deliver two major websites for McCormick & Company - a Fortune 500 leader in spices, seasonings, and flavor solutions. The project showcased enterprise-scale CMS implementation and international collaboration.

The Project

We delivered two complete websites for McCormick:

McCormick Consumer Site

Public-facing website serving millions of home cooks with recipes, product information, and culinary inspiration.

Visit McCormick.com

McCormick Corporate Site

Corporate website for investors, partners, and business stakeholders with financial information and company updates.

Visit MccormickCorporation.com

The Go-Live Moment

There's something truly special about seeing a project go live after months of development. Watching these sites launch to serve millions of users worldwide was an incredible achievement for the entire team.

Technology Stack

Enterprise-Grade CMS

  • Sitecore CMS 5.3 and 6.0 - Dual-version implementation for different site requirements
  • .NET Framework 3.0 - Leveraging WCF and WPF capabilities
  • Visual Studio 2008 - Professional development environment

Why Sitecore?

Sitecore was chosen for its enterprise capabilities:

  • Multi-site Management: Single CMS instance managing multiple brands and sites
  • Personalization: Delivering targeted content to different audience segments
  • Workflow & Publishing: Enterprise content approval and staging processes
  • Scalability: Handling millions of page views with enterprise-grade performance

The Amazing Team

What made this project truly special was the incredible team I worked with. This was a large-scale international collaboration involving:

StudioCom Atlanta

Project management, design, and development

Colombia Team

Distributed development and technical architecture

McCormick OSG

Product ownership and business requirements

A special thanks to the entire team who made this project possible. Working with talented professionals across multiple time zones taught me invaluable lessons about collaboration, communication, and delivering enterprise-scale solutions.

Lessons Learned

Enterprise CMS Implementation

Implementing Sitecore at this scale required deep understanding of its architecture, caching strategies, and deployment pipelines. Content architecture and information hierarchy are as important as code quality.

International Team Dynamics

Working across time zones in Atlanta, Colombia, and other locations required excellent communication, clear documentation, and asynchronous collaboration patterns that are now standard practice.

Fortune 500 Standards

Delivering for a Fortune 500 company meant enterprise-grade security, compliance, performance, and uptime requirements. Every decision was made with scale in mind.

Historical Context

Note: This project from 2008 represents a significant period in web development history. Sitecore was establishing itself as an enterprise CMS leader, .NET Framework 3.0 was bringing WCF and WPF to the platform, and distributed teams were becoming more common but still presented unique challenges.

The McCormick websites have evolved significantly since 2008, but the foundations we built and the patterns we established for enterprise CMS implementation remain relevant to modern digital experience platforms.
